Peter Colbert................IMAGES..1 - 2 - 3
Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Peter attended Humber College and the Ontario College of Art, where he won a scholarship in 1982, before embarking on a commercial career. Less than 3 years ago he decided to focus on his true passion and lifelong goal and committed to painting on a full-time basis. It can be safely said that success has followed closely behind, as buyer and gallery interest has grown on a continual basis. Peter is becoming known for his Canadian landscape paintings, but also likes to incorporate studies of the figure and still life into his repertoire. His work can be recognized by his free, bold strokes and striking use of colour. In his work he uses colour and light in ways that are exciting and fresh. For him this is where the journey begins. The other tenets of basic art creation like drawing, composition and technique tend to take a back seat. Because he places such a high premium on colour in his painting, he takes special pains in mixing his palette, using various glazes for subtle and interesting effects. Peter feels his paintings work best when they have a fresh, dynamic look to them, with the human element being clearly evident. Some of his favorite influences are Monet and Degas, Homer, de Koonig and Diebenkorn. Another is Voltaire, who once said, “The secret to being a bore is to tell everything." His work and limited prints can be found in a growing list of galleries, private collections and corporations across North America.
