Elizabeth Russ
Liz hasn't always been a painter; after spending 20 years working as a paralegal in BC, Ontario and the UK, she decided that she'd had enough of the legal world and turned her energy toward art. Liz graduated with honours in fine arts from the Ontario College of Art and Design and she is an active artist who works mainly in watercolour, printmaking/collage and acrylic. With her obvious energy and enthusiasm, Liz is also the founder, owner and curator of her beloved Gallery 888 based in Toronto. My own art is primarily devoted to landscape in an attempt to reinforce an appreciation of the world we live in. I create as a vehicle supporting the hope that we truly wake up before our planet becomes the best of all possible worlds for the rat, the cockroach and the dandelion! Ultimately, I would describe my art as a combination of abstraction combined with realism and diffusion through layering and coloration – as an appeal to our senses, to provoke our thoughts and as a delightful outlet for the creative process.
