Born in Montreal, Susan has lived in Jerusalem, New York, Boston, Roanoke, Ottawa and now Toronto. She has had solo exhibitions of her work in those cities and participated in numerous other juried and group shows in Canada and abroad. Her new floral paintings are a description of the chaos and complexity of nature from which it is only sometimes possible to find order. But beauty or meaning does not always require order to be truthful, and truth does not require exactitude in rendering. She prefers the wild tangle and interconnectedness of life over the isolation of the single bloom from its visual context. These canvasses (perhaps not ironically) are her response to relocating into downtown Toronto with its sirens, condo cranes, and potted gardens.
